I have made this several times. Sometimes the way the recipe states, sometimes I add different types of veggies, but any way I make it, it is GREAT!! Even better the second day.

As a New Englander who loves a great pot roast on cold nights- this is it. I may have the solution to those who do not like the gravy. First of all, if it's too beige, it probably wasn't cooked long enough. I had a smaller cut of meat so used only one can of soup but the whole envelope of french onion and almost a whole can of water. During the last 2 hours I threw in half an onion sliced, a big handful of baby carrots and 3 celery stalks chopped in chunks. Once the meat is cooked, you remove it, add flour mixed with water to prevent chunks or cornstarch to thicken -then puree everything (veggies and all)in a blender/processor with a dash of light cream, half and half and you have a smooth but thick and delicious gravy- No chunks! Sound complicated but really not. The veggies and cream give it enough sweetness so that it is not too salty. We loved it- great- thank you! I understand the 3000+ reviews.

DIVINE! Made it tonight and everyone just hoovered it up! Yum yum yum! Oh and if you only have one can of mushroom, cream of chicken works well too, I used one can of that and one can of mushroom.

This was my first recipe to make a pot roast and it came out very well. The first time I made it I did brown the meat and it was a tiny bit dry. I'm making it today as we speak and I'm not browning it first to see if there's a difference. Very easy recipe, great flavor...we also used the gravy for mashed potatoes. Definitely a keeper.

This recipe was really disappointing to me. If you want a yummy pot roast, I'd advise doing it the traditional way by taking the cut of meat, salt and peppering it and laying it down in a bit of water and surrounding it with potatoes, carrots and onions as it cooks slowly in a regular oven. I love Pot Roast and I love crock pots (easy to use, easy clean up, and more) but good Pot Roast just does not come from the crock pot, in my opinion. PS: More specifically about this recipe: The "gravy" was gnarly; an odd concoction of french onion dip and mushroom soup that rendered the roast a dull and pasty gray-beige color. Further, I have no idea what you would want to use the "gravy" for! I sure as shucks wouldnt want to put that stuff on my mashed potatoes!

all i have to say is WOW. i had been draving pot roast for weeks and i needed the perfect recipe...this was it. it was so melt in your mouth tender and yes, there was alot of gravy but i found that the roast was kind of dry so the gravy made it so much more moist. I substituted cream of potato soup for the mushroom soup. IT WAS DELICIOUS.

This has become one of my standbys. It's so easy and turns out fantastic every time. I've also used 1 can of cream of mushroom and 1 can of golden mushroom soup and substituted roasted garlic and onion soup mix or mushroom and onion soup mix and it still turned out great. I like to add a few cloves of crushed garlic to the soup or insert them into the roast before placing in the slow cooker.

All I can say is my old pot roast recipe is going in the trash! This one is so much better. Make with a side of smashed potatoes and you have a great southern home cooked meal. Who needs Cracker Barrel?

i added onions layered on the bottom and on top - a personal preference. I seared the meat for a few minutes before placing in the slow cooker. i added vegetables 2 hours before it was done. Next time i will add potatoes at the beginning and carrots 2 hrs towards the end. Excellent and will definitely make again. An easy staple!!

I accidentally opened a can of cream of onion soup instead of one of my cream of mushrooms, so I omitted the dry onion soup mix. It was incredible!

Terrific! My husband doesn't cook but one evening I had a last minute meeting to attend, I had heard about this recipe from a friend who raved about it! So I called my husband and walked him through this over the phone, we didn't have a roast but I had planned on making these little top round steaks, so we used them instead I had my husband use 1 can of soup & reduce the water some but everything else stayed the same. 3 hours later when I arrived home We had perfect little "Mini Roasts" so tender! I made some potatos and topped them with the extra gravy. The Steaks were so tender you could cut them with a fork & tasted just like pot roast!! Thank you dinner was ready & my husband was very proud of himself!!!
